Seth Elliot, a great guy I’ve had a chance to chat with at SuperConf in Miami and SXSWi in Austin, runs the weekly Miami StartupDigest newsletter. He included this in the latest, and I thought it was worth a share:
Our startup ecosystem continues to grow and evolve. Each and every one of you can help in this process. How? Consider the following:
- Attend events – Remember, these are organized for your benefit. Even though it sometime seems like a pain at the end of a long day, do your best to attend some of these startup events.
- Connect – Take the opportunity to connect with fellow entrepreneurs and startup aficionados. Several of you have recently arranged via Twitter or email to meet me at events. I encourage all of you to do this (with me and, more importantly, your fellow entrepreneurs).
- Participate – Many groups regularly seek out pitchers and presenters, offer yourself and your company. It can be daunting to pitch or present, but both you and the community will benefit.
- Evangelize – Tell others about startup events (better yet, encourage them to subscribe to StartupDigest Miami) and encourage event organizers to submit events to me for listing. I hope to see you soon at one of the events throughout the region.

This is sort of a follow up to my blog post: Tech & Creativity in Tampa Bay: Problems and Solutions
It also feels like a great time to make an announcement!
Startup Weekend is coming to Tampa July 8th-11th!
Startup Weekend is an intense 54 hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.
